Graduation
You can create opportunities for local youth to learn and grow—putting them on the path to success in school, and in life.
Keeping kids inspired and learning, no matter where they grow up
Students attending school in low-income neighbourhoods may lack access to safe, affordable, positive after-school activities. Without support, vulnerable kids may end up falling behind.
Time spent outside of school is as crucial to child development as time in class
Without access to summer programs, after-school homework help, recreational activities and social programs throughout the year, youth in low-income neighbourhoods are more likely to drop out of school—continuing the cycle of poverty.

Providing a safe place to go
United Way East Ontario invests in homework clubs, summer camps, and after-school programs throughout Prescott-Russell, Ottawa, Lanark County and Renfrew County. These vital programs help kids in at-risk neighbourhoods reach their full potential.
Participation improves students’ grades, self-esteem, leadership and career skills, and relationships with both peers and adults—ultimately, improving high school graduation rates.
We also recognize the power of advocacy and collaboration. We have a long history of joining forces with key community partners to bring forward innovative strategies like the Child and Youth Agenda and the Ottawa Child and Youth Initiative.
Our Impact
SWAG helped me graduate, against the odds
Kuma was tagged as an “at-risk” kid. An after-school program helped her crush the stereotypes and overcome her barriers.
Putting young people on the path to success
Many local families may not be able to provide their kids with access to safe, engaging and educational after-school or summer programs that pave the way to graduation.
Thanks to our donors, United Way can invest funds where they are needed most and will have the greatest impact. Together with your support, we give kids a chance to succeed—no matter their income, what neighbourhood they live in, or their background.
